We might have different things in mind. What I refer to is Code Challenges where you get say 90 minutes to solve 3 trick problems on a web platform like Codility.

Don’t get me wrong some people love this kind of stuff and do those brain teaser for fun. I have huge respect for those people, same as I have respect for competitive athletes. However I don’t think you need to be a competitive sprinter to deliver mail 😀.

I personally rather spend time working on my open source projects, than going through hundreds of challenges and improving my score.

I also very often see a huge dissonance between, what is asked from the candidate to do while applying for the job and what they have to do in the job. Why do you ask people to run 100 meter under 15 seconds, if they will be siting behind the desk all day? 🤷‍♂️
